President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that it is the courage of Ukrainian soldiers that ensures Ukraine’s strong diplomatic positions.
He said this in his evening address.
“Today we had several detailed conversations with our team at the negotiations in Geneva. It was the second day of meetings — in a trilateral format and in other formats as well. Ukraine is interested in results. As of now, we cannot say the result is sufficient.
The military had serious and substantive talks on part of the issues. Sensitive political issues, questions of possible compromises, and the necessary meeting of leaders have not yet been sufficiently worked through. We count on the next meeting, and it would be right if it happened already in February”, — he said.
According to the President, it is important that European partners — France, the UK, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland as the host country — were present.
“It is Ukraine that has always advocated that Europe must participate in the process. I want to thank the United States for hearing this position”, — Zelensky stressed.
He also instructed the Ukrainian delegation to discuss the humanitarian track.
“We need prisoner-of-war exchanges, the release of civilians. We look for information about every person and always work to bring our people home. Every exchange matters. I am also grateful to our soldiers at the front who conduct active actions and replenish the exchange fund for us, for Ukraine.
And it is precisely the courage of our warriors that ensures all of this — humanitarian results and, overall, our diplomatic capability and strong positions. It is important when these positions are shared — when we all in Ukraine work for the country to withstand, defend itself, and achieve a just peace. Any other politics in Ukraine right now is absolutely unnecessary. This is wartime. A time to defend our state and our people”, — Zelensky concluded.
