NATO-Ukraine JATEC marks anniversary as an important element of cooperation
The NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) has proven itself within its first year as an important element of NATO-Ukraine cooperat
JATEC, celebrating its anniversary on February 17, became the first joint organization within NATO created to analyze Russian aggression and promote interoperability.
On the anniversary, dozens of Ukrainian and NATO military personnel and civilian staff took part in a ceremony at JATEC headquarters in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
“Creating a new organization within NATO structures jointly managed by NATO and Ukraine is an ambitious task. I am proud of our staff whose professionalism, creativity, and dedication turn this vision into reality every day”, — said JATEC Commander Brigadier General Wojciech Ozga.
In its first year, the Center defined five areas of work: military development, digitalization, education, comprehensive defense, and transformation/interoperability.
JATEC played a key role in organizing three innovative challenges in 2025 together with NATO Allied Command Transformation and Ukrainian experts.
The NATO Innovation Challenges sought solutions to counter glide bombs, FPV drones with fiber-optic control, and to provide medical assistance and evacuation under fire.
“JATEC has become a bridge for the practical integration of Ukraine into NATO through experience sharing in all areas of our project activity”, — said Colonel Valerii Vyshnivskyi.
He noted that, for the first time, Ukrainian experts and NATO analysts work side by side as equal partners to change NATO doctrine, improve capability development, and accelerate technological innovation.
Notably, in 2025:
- During the REPMUS/Dynamic Messenger 25 exercises, the Ukrainian Navy led the opposing force in NATO exercises, incorporating combat experience into collective training.
- For the first time, the North Atlantic Council approved Ukrainian participation in the LOYAL DOLOS 25 command-post exercises (Article 5) at the corps level.
- JATEC involved Ukrainian companies in joint research and innovation with NATO; two companies received contracts.
A year after opening, JATEC is becoming a driver of NATO-Ukraine cooperation, turning hard-earned experience into practical change and strengthening interoperability.
