Ukraine and France strengthen cooperation for joint weapons production
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov and the French Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu signed a Letter of Intent on joint weapons production in Ukraine and France.
This was reported in the minister’s Telegram channel.
This opens the way to large-scale joint projects in the defense-industrial sector. Ukraine is moving from supplies to joint production and long-term solutions that systematically strengthen its defense capability.
Key areas of cooperation: the French side announced preparations to transfer Mirage 2000 aircraft to Ukraine.
The ministers also discussed accelerating aircraft supplies and continuing work on record quantities of AASM Hammer precision aerial bombs.
Fedorov noted that Ukraine is interested in further supplies of SAMP/T, Mistral, and Crotale systems, as well as ammunition for them. Ukraine proposed working together on improving SAMP/T for more effective counteraction to ballistic threats.
Cooperation also continues on the supply and accelerated production of Aster missiles.
They also discussed the provision of long-range strike systems, including SCALP missiles.
During the negotiations, the focus was placed on joint projects between the governments and defense companies of Ukraine and France: testing security solutions and developing innovative electronic warfare systems.
Key priorities of defense cooperation were agreed upon, and funding for joint projects was discussed, including through an EU loan and the SAFE program.
“I thank France for its consistent political and military support of Ukraine. This partnership directly strengthens our defense and the security of all Europe”, — Fedorov wrote.
