In January, Ukrainian-made systems demonstrated high results in destroying Shaheds.
This was stated by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, on February 4.
“We are increasing our capabilities to counter enemy drones”, — he wrote.
The enemy attacks Ukraine daily with Shahed- and Geran-type strike UAVs. Civilian populations and critical infrastructure come under fire. The task of the Armed Forces remains unchanged: to protect the skies over Ukrainian cities and villages.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces received reports on the effectiveness of destroying Shaheds using various types of interceptor drones.
“It is important that in January, the systems demonstrating high results are precisely those of Ukrainian production. We observe positive dynamics in equipping newly formed interceptor drone divisions. Additional crews are undergoing training”, — Oleksandr Syrskyi reported.
According to him, hundreds of UAV crews have already been placed under the operational control of the Air Force grouping — they perform tasks in the first, second, and third interception echelons.
“In parallel, we are strengthening anti-drone protection of key administrative centers in frontline regions. ‘Small air defense’ is one of the most dynamic and technologically advanced areas of modern warfare”, — emphasized the Commander-in-Chief.
As he noted, decisions in this area must be quick, precise, and nonstandard.
“A new Air-Defense Unmanned Systems Command has been created in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Highly professional officers with combat experience have been assigned to the Air Force command staff by my orders. They provided practical proposals for the development of ‘small air defense’, based on which the necessary management decisions were made”, — said Oleksandr Syrskyi.
He added that not everything in this area depends solely on the professionalism and dedication of Ukrainian service members. The decisive factors remain the production pace of Ukrainian and European manufacturers, as well as the supply of radars, UAV systems, and interceptor drones from Western partners.
“The enemy constantly improves its weapons — in particular, equipping strike drones with Starlink satellite communication terminals, using difficult weather conditions, and other tactical solutions”, — added the Commander-in-Chief.
Additionally, army aviation is being further engaged. In total, army aviation helicopters have already destroyed 5,830 enemy aerial attack means.

Russia’s overall goal is to produce 1,000 drones per day. To counter this, approximately 2–3 thousand interceptors are needed.
