Under the chairmanship of Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Andriy Hnatov, a meeting was held to discuss further strengthening of Ukraine’s air defense.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“The enemy constantly modernizes air attack systems, increases their numbers, and changes tactics. This requires continuous improvement and development of Ukraine’s air shield, implementation of innovative solutions, and an increase in the number of units involved in repelling air attacks”, — the statement said.
Given that the Russian aggressor continues targeted strikes on critical infrastructure in violation of international humanitarian law, one of the priority areas is strengthening the protection of such facilities with air defense and electronic warfare systems — primarily energy sector facilities.
New air defense units are being formed and continue to be formed in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Army aviation is actively involved in countering strike UAVs. The number of helicopters engaged in air defense tasks is increasing, and new aircraft are equipped with modern air target detection and engagement systems.
The number of units armed with interceptor drones is constantly increasing. The interceptors themselves and target detection systems are systematically modernized. Work is actively underway to integrate artificial intelligence elements into UAV management systems.
The scale-up of electronic warfare units is ongoing, with a focus on deploying electronic warfare assets to protect critical infrastructure, especially energy facilities.
The meeting also discussed strengthening mobile fire groups, including equipping them with automated turret installations with modern target detection and engagement systems, which significantly increases their effectiveness.
Issues of air defense reinforcement in coastal areas and the development of naval-based air defense were also discussed.
“Despite the enemy’s constant improvement of air attack means and the existing shortage of anti-aircraft missiles, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continuously develop the air defense system. This is achieved through the implementation of new technological solutions, improvement of attack repelling tactics, increasing the number of air defense units, and enhancing their professional training”, — concluded the General Staff.
