What is known about the crime
According to available data, from September 1 to 5, 2022, while in Borova, Izium district, Kharkiv region, maksym volvak, along with other Russian servicemen:
- used physical violence;
- engaged in cruel treatment of civilians;
- persecuted people for their open pro-Ukrainian stance.
The victims were local residents who, in 2014–2015, took part in defending Ukraine from Russian aggression and the illegal armed formations of the “LNR” and “DNR”. At the time of the events in Borova, these people had already been discharged from military service and were civilians.
Thus, the actions of the Russian serviceman targeted non-combatants, which is a direct violation of international humanitarian law.
Participation in crimes is not “just following orders” — it is personal responsibility.
