Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov discussed strengthening air defense, the transfer of Mirage 2000-5 aircraft, and countering russia’s “shadow fleet” with French Minister of the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin.
He reported on the conversation on the evening of January 27.
“I thanked France for its many years of consistent cooperation and strong contribution to the development of our air defense and aviation capabilities. This partnership is already working to protect Ukraine’s sky”, — Mykhailo Fedorov wrote.
According to him, work is underway in several areas. The first involves steps to strengthen air defense and counter new technological threats.
“We are counting on the supply of ammunition from France — both for SAMP/T and Crotale air defense systems, as well as long-range capabilities. I am grateful for the readiness to transfer additional French-made missiles in the near future”, — the minister noted.
The second area concerns the transfer of Mirage 2000-5 aircraft to Ukraine.
“We expect additional aircraft deliveries — this will significantly strengthen our air capabilities”, — Mykhailo Fedorov stated.
The third area is countering russia’s “shadow fleet”.
“I noted France’s principled position on restricting the activities of russia’s ‘shadow fleet’. Reducing the enemy’s resources is a key factor in lowering its ability to finance the war.
I also invited Catherine Vautrin to visit Ukraine. We are ready to move our cooperation to a new level, particularly in data exchange and joint analytics. I thank France for its systematic support, leadership, and clear stance”, — Mykhailo Fedorov concluded.
