Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, delivered a greeting on the occasion of Ukraine’s Unity Day.
The text of the greeting was released on the morning of January 22.
“Dear defenders of Ukraine! Today is Unity Day. A day of our unity. A day of strength.
Unity is sacred for Ukrainians. For centuries, they tried to divide us, tear us apart with imperial borders, and force us to fight not for our own state. But Ukraine stood firm. Because faith in independence and unity lived in hearts.
Today, unity is not only territory. It is shared meaning and a shared goal. Wherever we are, we are one people and one state.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are the embodiment of unity. In one formation stand people from all regions, of different ages and professions. We are different, but the goal is one — to defend our country and its future.
This was not taken into account by the Russian occupier who came to our homes to kill and destroy. That is why ‘Kyiv in three days’ turned into hell for the enemy, and the losses of the occupation army exceeded one million two hundred twenty thousand personnel.
On this day, I thank everyone who defends every meter of Ukrainian land with weapons in their hands.
Eternal memory to those who gave their lives for the Independence and Unity of Ukraine.
The idea of a United Ukrainian State was the dream of many generations of Ukrainians. Today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine defend and protect a dream that became reality several decades ago.
We are united. Happy Unity Day of Ukraine!” — Oleksandr Syrskyi noted.
