Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, Mykhailo Fedorov, held talks with Germany’s Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, discussing the further development of Ukraine’s Patriot program and the necessary projects to ensure long-term supplies of missiles for Ukraine’s Patriot systems.
He reported this on social media on January 20.
According to him, Germany is one of Ukraine’s key partners in the field of security and defense. Today, Germany’s contribution accounts for more than 30% of all announced security assistance to Ukraine for 2026.
Mykhailo Fedorov thanked Germany for the two Patriot systems transferred last autumn and for its readiness to direct additional resources toward unmanned systems for Ukrainian soldiers.
He also spoke about today’s massive Russian attack.
“Strengthening air defense remains our priority, and Germany’s role in this area is key. The IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems provided, as well as participation in the PURL project for purchasing American weapons, helped repel Russian terror today”, — the Ukrainian defense minister noted.
At the same time, they focused on developing the IRIS-T missile as one of the core systems in Ukraine’s arsenal and increasing supplies.
They also discussed Germany’s participation in an innovative project to develop drone-assault units.
“We already have successful operations at the front and are ready to share this practical experience with German servicemen. Another important area of cooperation is extended-range artillery ammunition”, — the statement said.
Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized the importance of supplying precisely long-range artillery shells for effective artillery operations under conditions of a drone kill zone.
“An important priority for Ukraine is to continue Germany’s contributions to the Czech Initiative. I am grateful to Germany for its vital systematic assistance to Ukraine and personally to Boris Pistorius for his leadership and consistent efforts to strengthen our defense”, — he summarized.
