Throughout 2025, the 429th Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment “Achilles” demonstrated outstanding results, which allowed it to be scaled up to brigade level.

The regiment consistently held leadership positions in the top 10 of the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Defense Forces of Ukraine as a whole. It was staffed to 89% of its authorized strength and achieved 91% manning of combat crews.

Currently, the 429th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade “Achilles” of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is scaling up units of ground robotic complexes, air defense, electronic warfare, and engineering support, and has announced approximately 3,000 vacancies.

This was stated in an exclusive comment to ArmyInform by the brigade commander, Major Yurii Fedorenko.

“At the beginning of 2024, the ‘Achilles’ unit was a battalion within the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade named after Kosh Ataman Ivan Sirko. And already on January 15, 2025, we became a separate military unit and scaled up — the ‘Achilles’ battalion transformed into the 429th Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment. According to its authorized structure, it numbered over three thousand servicemen, while in reality at that time we had just over five hundred.

Throughout 2025, without leaving the active combat zone for a single day, we staffed the unit through recruitment, mobilization, and the return of servicemen from unauthorized absence. A small percentage also came through transfers from other military formations.

As a result, during 2025 we staffed the regiment to 89% of its authorized strength. This is an unprecedentedly high level of manning for 2025, under conditions where mobilization processes are objectively lagging.

In addition, we achieved 91% manning of combat crews. We created an air defense unit that operates at the tactical level, destroying ‘Supercam,’ ‘Zala,’ ‘Orlan,’ ‘Lancet,’ and ‘Molniya’ systems, as well as at the operational-tactical level — shooting down ‘Shaheds.’ A number of other units also emerged.

We acquired serious combat capability. As a result, we were able to almost quadruple the number of detected and destroyed targets. The regiment maintains leadership in the top 10 of the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Defense Forces of Ukraine overall. We consistently remain in this top ten: at different times taking third or second place. And in September last year, if I’m not mistaken, we reached first place.

Given the achieved results, a completely logical decision was made to scale the regiment up to a brigade. A brigade means up to six thousand servicemen. Accordingly, in 2026 we must make another leap forward — both in staffing and in acquiring combat capability.

In fact, we must repeat and scale up what we did earlier — in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. The expertise within the unit is more than sufficient for this.

As of today, we have a sufficient amount of equipment to carry out combat missions and are conducting an active recruitment campaign. The approximate number of vacancies in the brigade is about 3,000.

Scaling up also include the expansion of operational capabilities. Until recently, we did not have a separate unit of ground robotic complexes, nor electronic warfare — now they are being created.

Previously, we had a very limited number of air defense-related positions, but now their number is increasing many times over. We did not have separate units responsible for engineering support — the preparation and fortification of positions. All of this had to be done by the fighters themselves. Now such units are also being formed. Scaling up to a brigade gives us these capabilities”.
