Ukraine and Latvia discuss cooperation and military assistance for 2026
Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Serhii Boiev and Speaker of the Latvian Parliament Daiga Mieriņa discussed Latvia’s military assistance in 2026 and cooperation in the defense industry.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on January 19.
Serhii Boiev thanked Latvia’s leadership and people for their steadfast support throughout the entire Russian-Ukrainian war, particularly for allocating 0.25% of GDP to support Ukraine.
“We are grateful for your assistance and for its continuation in 2026. This year will be a year of trials. Ukraine will not forget those who stand with it in difficult times”, — Serhii Boiev said.
He also thanked Latvia for transferring Patria armored personnel carriers already operating at the front. He separately emphasized the importance of the PURL initiative (a joint U.S.-NATO initiative launched in summer 2025 to accelerate delivery of critical weapons to Ukraine), which Latvia has joined.
For her part, Daiga Mieriņa emphasized the importance of sanctions policy against the aggressor and developing cooperation in the defense industry, stating the readiness of Latvian companies for joint projects.
The parties also discussed priorities for military support to Ukraine in 2026 and preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
