“He covered himself with a sleeping mat and waited 12 Hours”: Soldier describes wounded evacuation
A servicemember named Kyrylo spoke about an extremely difficult evacuation of a wounded comrade that lasted more than 12 hours.
He shared the story in an interview with Army TV.
Previously, he served in the 38th Separate Marine Brigade and is now a cadet at the Military Academy in Odesa.
“He found a sleeping mat, covered himself with it, and waited 12 hours until I came for him”, — Kyrylo recalled.
The incident occurred while performing combat missions on the left bank of the Dnipro River. The enemy tightly controlled the area with artillery, mortars, and FPV drones. Despite this, the decision was made not to abandon the wounded soldier and to begin evacuation, fully aware of the risks.
“I returned from a mission, got the task — who could go retrieve our comrade. I immediately said I would go, even though I knew hell had already started there”, — Kyrylo said.
The operation lasted over 12 hours. Open terrain and constant threats from artillery, drones, mortars, and tanks made it especially difficult.
“He had many wounds — his entire back, legs, and arms”, — Kyrylo added.
When he reached the shore, he could not find the wounded soldier for a long time. It later turned out that after being wounded, the soldier had crawled away from the boat. Remaining conscious, he heard Kyrylo’s voice and crawled back to the damaged boat on his own.
Thanks to coordinated actions and endurance, the wounded servicemember was successfully evacuated to a safe area and handed over to medics.
