Corps reform, deep strike, and new Forces: Oleksandr Syrskyi summarizes AFU activities in 2025
In 2025, reform and transformation processes continued within the Armed Forces of Ukraine despite ongoing combat operations.
This was reported by Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
“War requires constant development, technologization, and new solutions. We summarized the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2025”, — the statement reads.
Corps reform
16 corps have been formed. The second stage is ongoing — where the situation allows, brigades are being regrouped so that corps receive their own force packages within designated areas of responsibility.
Unmanned Forces
The drone component has been significantly expanded — both within the Unmanned Systems Forces and other branches. In 2025, Unmanned Air Defense Forces of the Air Force were established. Three Shahed interception echelons have already been deployed.
New Forces
Cyber Forces and Assault Forces are being formed.
Enemy Losses
In summer 2025, the one-million mark was crossed, and by year’s end the number of neutralized occupiers exceeded 1.2 million.
Deep Strike
719 targets were hit deep inside Russian territory, causing approximately $15 billion in military and military-economic losses.
Air Defense
Over the year, the enemy conducted 624 missile and air strikes, including 52 massive attacks.
Air defense forces destroyed or neutralized:
- 27,367 Shaheds/Gerans
- 916 cruise missiles
- 164 ballistic and hypersonic missiles
- 207 guided aerial bombs (KABs)
At the same time, Syrskyi emphasized the need to strengthen mine-explosive barriers and anti-drone protection.
“The full-scale war has been going on for almost four years. We know the problems and are working to solve them. I have defined tasks for 2026 for all military command bodies. This year will also be difficult, but we will definitely overcome both the challenges and the Russian aggressor. I sincerely thank Ukrainian soldiers, sergeants, and officers who selflessly hold the line and destroy the age-old enemy. The struggle for Ukraine continues”, — the Commander-in-Chief emphasized.
