A Canadian volunteer credited with saving about 50 Ukrainian fighters has decided to return to service after being injured by a mine explosion.
His story was shared on Sunday, January 11, by the Khartiia Corps.
“His call sign is ‘Cooper.’ At the age of 20, he came to Ukraine from Canada as a foreign volunteer. In the summer of 2025, he joined Khartiia, and already in early autumn took part in the Kupiansk operation of the Khartiia search-and-strike group. Together with his brothers-in-arms, he was among the first to enter villages north of Kupiansk and, while carrying out missions, provided medical assistance to about fifty Khartiia fighters. Eventually, he stepped on a Russian mine”, — the statement says.
In addition, “Cooper” released a selection of unique archival footage filmed on his GoPro during missions.
“I lost my leg. I can’t change what happened. And I knew what I was getting into. I regret nothing. And I’m not finished yet. I’m not done. I will have a prosthetic. There are many people who do this — so why can’t I? There is no reason not to do it”, — the volunteer said.
