While en route to the port of Chornomorsk, a Russian strike drone hit a civilian vessel sailing under the foreign flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was heading to load grain cargo as part of the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor. Preliminary reports indicate injuries.
This was reported by Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territorial Development.
The vessel’s seaworthiness was not compromised; it remains underway and is heading to the nearest port.
Another vessel under the flag of the Comoros Islands carrying soybeans was also hit near the port of Odesa.
As a result of the attack, one crew member — a citizen of Syria — was killed. Rescue units have been dispatched to the scene.
“This is further evidence that Russia deliberately strikes civilian objects, international shipping, and food logistics”, — the statement said.
As Dmytro Kuleba noted, Ukraine is doing everything possible to guarantee security and fulfill its export obligations despite constant attacks.
