Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov reported to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the results of yesterday’s negotiations held by Ukraine’s team in France.

President Zelenskyy announced this on January 8.

“A bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine is effectively ready for finalization at the highest level with the President of the United States.

It is important that Ukraine continues to successfully unite the efforts of the European and American teams, and that, in particular, documents on recovery and economic development were jointly discussed.

Difficult issues from the basic framework for ending the war were also discussed, and the Ukrainian side presented possible options for finalizing this document.

We understand that the American side will communicate with Russia, and we expect feedback — whether the aggressor is genuinely ready to end the war.

After returning to Kyiv, our negotiating team will report on all the details of the meetings. We also inform our partners about the consequences of Russian strikes, which clearly do not indicate that Moscow is revising its priorities.

In this context, it is necessary for pressure on Russia to increase just as intensively as the negotiating teams are working.

The realism of future security guarantees must be proven by the partners’ ability, already at this stage, to exert effective pressure on the aggressor. We are preparing new relevant contacts with our partners”, — the President noted.
