In Vinnytsia Oblast, a court delivered a verdict to a resident of Vinnytsia who, during martial law, refused to comply with lawful demands at a checkpoint, threatened military personnel and police officers, and used a gas spray, causing bodily injuries to law enforcement officers.
Today, the Territorial Centers of Recruitment and Social Support (TCRSS) are staffed by servicemen, including those with combat experience, who have been to the front and understand better than anyone the real needs of the military and the cost of every lost day of mobilization. These units perform tasks to ensure the state’s defense capability during a special period.
It was precisely during the performance of such a task that the incident occurred, which received a legal assessment in court. Its circumstances are outlined in the verdict of the Vinnytsia District Court of Vinnytsia Oblast dated October 15, 2025 (case No. 128/2554/25).
The incident occurred on May 15, 2025, at a reinforced checkpoint at the entrance to the village of Berezyna. During an inspection of a Volkswagen Golf vehicle, law enforcement officers established that the driver was wanted as a person evading conscription. A notification group arrived at the scene to clarify military registration data.
In response to a lawful demand to exit the vehicle, the man refused and escalated to aggression.
According to the court’s findings, during the conflict the defendant threatened to use a metal object (rebar) and subsequently sprayed tear gas. As a result, three police officers were injured and sustained minor bodily injuries.
The court found the man guilty of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period, as well as of intentionally causing bodily injuries to law enforcement officers in the performance of their official duties.
The sentence is five years of imprisonment. At the same time, the court applied a suspended sentence and set a probation period of three years.
During the probation period, the convicted person will be under the supervision of probation authorities: he is required to regularly report for registration, inform about any change of residence or employment, and complete a special probation program aimed at overcoming aggressive behavior.
The TCRSS are units that daily carry out tasks to defend the state. Understanding this is key for every citizen during wartime. Lawful interaction with the military and police strengthens mobilization processes and the country’s defense capability, whereas evasion or aggression only works in favor of the enemy and naturally results in criminal liability.
