Modern military medicine is changing along with the war itself. However, the priority of Ukraine’s military medical system remains unchanged — preserving the life and health of every service member.
Today, the effectiveness of military medicine is based on a clear sequence of actions, international standards, and unified management.
ArmyInform spoke about the key achievements in Ukraine’s military medical sphere in 2025 with the Acting Director of the Health Care Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Dmytro Samofalov, as well as representatives of the Medical Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Defense Digital Transformation Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
“Over the past year, Ukraine’s military medical system has made a qualitative leap from fragmented solutions to systemic changes. The key achievements include the update of the Military Medical Doctrine, the introduction of a modular approach to medical support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, standardization of tactical medicine and combat medic training, the creation of a state system for identifying the deceased based on biometric data, as well as large-scale digitalization of military medicine.
These steps not only increase the survivability of the wounded and the quality of medical care at all stages, but also form a unified, manageable, and evidence-based system of military medical support integrated with civilian health care and focused on preserving the life and health of service members”, — Acting Director of the Health Care Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Dmytro Samofalov told an ArmyInform correspondent.
“The Ministry of Defense has launched the Medical Information System of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which covers the full treatment cycle of service members — from evacuation to rehabilitation. 86% of Armed Forces units already use the Medical Information System”.
