On the night of December 18, the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled a massive attack by Russian strike UAVs. Air defense shot down or suppressed 63 enemy drones launched from several directions.
This was reported by the Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the Air Force, from 6:00 p.m. on December 17, Russian forces used 82 strike UAVs of the Shahed type, “Gerber”, and other types of drones.
Launches were carried out from the areas of Millerovo, Kursk, Orel, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russian Federation). About 50 of the attacking aircraft were Shahed drones.
The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
As of 8:30 a.m., the downing/suppression of 63 enemy UAVs was confirmed in the north, south, east, and center of the country. At the same time, strikes by 19 attack drones were recorded at 12 locations, as well as the fall of debris from downed UAVs at eight locations.
The Air Force reports that the attack is ongoing — individual enemy UAVs remain in Ukraine’s airspace.
The enemy is attempting to develop the production of naval drones and copy successful Ukrainian practices — both technical solutions and tactics.
Fighting continues in the northern part of the city of Pokrovsk in the Pokrovsk direction. A mechanized assault was repelled there the day before.
