Partners to allocate over $4 Billion for weapons for Ukraine under the PURL Initiative
Ukraine’s partners have announced new contributions to the PURL initiative, which funds the procurement of U.S. weapons according to the priority needs of the Ukrainian army.
This was stated in a publication by Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, Denys Shmyhal.
Partner contributions strengthening Ukraine’s defence
This week, several countries announced a significant expansion of funding:
- $500 million — a joint contribution from Norway, Poland, and the Netherlands;
- $200 million — from Germany;
- 200 million Canadian dollars — from Canada.
Australia and New Zealand have also joined the initiative, allocating more than $70 million together. The participation of these countries makes PURL a truly global platform for supporting Ukraine.
In total, PURL now unites 21 countries.
PURL as a key mechanism for strengthening Air defense
The initiative enables partners to fund the purchase of U.S.-made weapons from a list of needs identified by Ukraine and coordinated with the United States and NATO.
The effectiveness of PURL is evident:
- approximately 75% of the missiles for Patriot systems,
- approximately 90% of the missiles for other air defense systems
delivered to Ukraine have been financed specifically through this initiative.
Unity of partners
The Minister of Defense thanked NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and all the countries that joined PURL, emphasizing that the unity of partners strengthens Ukraine’s defense capabilities and brings victory closer.
