President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a number of new sanctions decrees, including the synchronization of the 19th European Union sanctions package within Ukrainian jurisdiction. The Head of State also announced new restrictions against Russian entities operating in the Arctic, as well as a response to Moscow’s sanctions targeting the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
The President reported this on his official page.
“We continue the synchronization of our partners’ sanctions within Ukrainian jurisdiction. Starting today, the 19th EU sanctions package against Russia for this war comes into force in Ukraine”, — said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He described the document as “strong,” noting that it targets the export of Russian resources and the supply chains delivering electronic components to Russia that are used in military production.
According to the President, the economic impact of this package is estimated at tens of billions of euros annually, significantly limiting the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war.
Ukraine is also imposing sanctions against Russian companies involved in resource extraction in the Arctic, which, as the President emphasized, “directly support Russia’s war machine”.
“We already know that this step of ours will be continued by our partners”, — the Head of State noted.
In addition, the President instructed the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to prepare new decisions concerning Russian propagandists, military production, and collaborators.
Separately, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is preparing a mirror sanctions response to Moscow’s actions, after Russia imposed sanctions on the Prime Minister and several members of the Ukrainian government.
“Of course, Russian sanctions — unlike global ones — have no real effect. But any of their escalations, even propagandistic ones, deserve a tangible response”, — the President emphasized.
He stressed that Russia must end this war not with words, but with concrete actions and meaningful diplomacy. Otherwise, Zelenskyy said, pressure on all those who have influence in Moscow will only continue to grow.
