In an attempt to counter the growing resistance to the Kremlin regime within Russia, Russian intelligence services have returned to their usual methods of warfare — creating fakes and spreading disinformation.
The Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported this.
Enemy propagandists have intensified their efforts to create Telegram channels and social media pages that imitate the official resources of the DIU’s “Timur Special Unit”.
Their goal is to mislead potential volunteers, discredit Ukrainian military intelligence, and disrupt the recruitment of new fighters into the resistance movement, which is increasingly spreading across Russian territory.
In particular, the Russians recently registered a fake Telegram page of the “Timur Special Unit”, with the first post appearing on October 31, 2025.
The DIU of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine emphasizes that, by decision of the command, official communication of this special unit is carried out exclusively through the official resources of Ukraine’s military intelligence.
The Russians are also imitating the pages of units that are part of the “Timur Special Unit”.
For example, on March 16, 2024, they registered a fake Telegram page of the Russian Volunteer Corps, and the first post on the channel appeared on August 24, 2024.
Currently, the fake channel has been artificially boosted to over 130,000 subscribers — more than 13,000 more than the real RVC page.
The growing anti-Kremlin resistance and the increasing number of Russians joining the volunteer units of Ukrainian intelligence are causing great concern in the Kremlin.
That is why the FSS is trying to “fight back” in any way possible — by creating fake pages, fabricating disinformation, and masking its own failures as “information operations”.
