Why can’t the war be won with drones alone, and what role do assault units play in modern warfare? How…
The United Kingdom has supplied Ukraine with more than 85,000 military drones in just six months this year thanks to accelerated production by British companies and support for jobs in both countries.
This was stated in a message on the UK government’s website.
Defence Minister John Gili confirmed that this year the United Kingdom invested £600 million to accelerate drone deliveries to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including tens of thousands of FPV drones that are crucial for supporting the Ukrainian front line.
These drones are used for precision strikes, reconnaissance, and disrupting Russian actions along the front line.
John Gili will speak today at the “Ramstein” meeting in Brussels and will urge allies to scale up drone production.
Last month in Kyiv, John Gili and Denys Shmyhal signed a first-of-its-kind industrial partnership under which the United Kingdom is co-developing an interceptor drone that is already being used by Ukraine to protect civilians and critical infrastructure from Russian drones.
New data from the Ukrainian battlefield are also now being used to mass-produce the Octopus interceptor so that thousands of improved interceptor drones can be delivered to Ukraine each month.
The drone coalition, which the UK co-leads with Latvia, is also using funding from a number of countries to purchase modern drone interceptors to help Ukraine counter the “Shaheds” that the Russians use to strike Ukrainian infrastructure.
Interceptors are now being tested on the battlefield, and the drone coalition is expected to sign new contracts soon to supply Ukraine with additional equipment, including roughly 35,000 new interception systems in the coming months.
