The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported that fraudsters are devising new schemes to extort money from families of prisoners of war.

This was stated in a message from the Coordination Headquarters on December 31.

It is noted that the new scheme involves imposing legal services.

“People are promised, in particular, a change of status from ‘missing in action’ to ‘captured’. However, all statuses without exception provide for the same payments, involvement in the search, and return. Such and similar expensive legal ‘services’ are often unnecessary. Do not waste your money in vain”, — the Coordination Headquarters wrote.

They also emphasized that no “well-connected acquaintances” who allegedly have ties to the security and defense forces — even those recommended in family groups or by a “friend who was in captivity” — have any influence or authority to help.

“Usually, fraudsters approach you under their guise. Families lose tens and hundreds of thousands of hryvnias, which they pay supposedly for ‘organizing calls’, ‘sending parcels’, ‘adding to lists’, and so on”, — the Coordination Headquarters explained.

Only the Coordination Headquarters possesses complete information and provides all necessary services — legal, consultative, and psychological assistance — completely free of charge.
