In Geneva, Swiss Confederation, the first Interregional Information Session of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on preparations for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27) was recently held.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
More than 700 participants from various countries, international and regional organizations, and associations of telecommunications operators worked on issues determining the development vector of electronic communications.
Ukraine was represented by a delegation of the Communications Administration with the participation of a representative of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During the session, up-to-date information was obtained on the results of work by the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau study groups on the WRC-27 agenda items, as well as on the positions of six regional organizations: CITEL (Americas), CEPT (Europe), APT (Asia-Pacific), ASMG (Arab League countries), ATU (Africa), and RCC (some post-Soviet countries).
The issues discussed are important to ensure access for Ukraine’s Defense Forces to a radio frequency spectrum not limited by borders.
These include new frequency bands for future sixth-generation (6G) mobile communications and additional bands for 5G/4G, satellite communications issues, regulatory aspects of spectrum use, and support for scientific services — radio astronomy and Earth exploration satellite services.
Despite the ongoing aggression of the Russian Federation, Ukraine continues to fulfill its obligations as a member state of the UN specialized agency for digital technologies — the ITU — and to contribute to shaping the future of global communications.
The interregional information session is part of Ukraine’s preparation for WRC-27, which will take place in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, from October 18 to November 12, 2027 — the most important ITU event, where the results of four years of studies will be summarized and the Radio Regulations — the international treaty governing the use of radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbits — will be reviewed and amended to stimulate technological innovation and meet global, regional, and national needs in the limited radio frequency resource.
Important: Under martial law, management of radio frequency spectrum use by all categories of users is carried out by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On Electronic Communications”.
