The SBU has disclosed new details of a special operation in Novorossiysk: prior to the detonation of a submarine, a Russian Il-38N aircraft was hit.
This was reported by the SBU.
The Security Service of Ukraine released new details of a unique special operation in the port of Novorossiysk, during which a Russian submarine was blown up.
As it turned out, one of the key stages of the operation was disabling a maritime anti-submarine reconnaissance aircraft, the Il-38N, which could have interfered with the execution of the main task.
During preparations for the strike, officers of the 13th Main Directorate of the SBU’s Military Counterintelligence Department hit a modernized Il-38N aircraft (“Sea Dragon”) at the Yeysk air base.
This aircraft is designed for maritime reconnaissance, submarine search, control of maritime areas, deployment of minefields, and delivery of torpedo strikes.
According to the SBU, in the Black Sea Russian forces had only one aircraft of this class capable of detecting the underwater drone Sub Sea Baby during its movement toward the target.
This particular aircraft was actively countering the operation of the SBU’s maritime drones. The estimated value of the Il-38N is about USD 24 million.
To strike the aircraft, a modern drone with a surface-detonation warhead was used, equipped with about two thousand downward-directed lethal elements.
The detonation occurred directly above the compartment housing the main equipment and radars and also damaged the aircraft’s engine.
Disabling the anti-submarine aircraft, the SBU notes, ensured the successful execution of the main phase of the special operation — the detonation of a Russian Kilo-class (Varshavyanka) submarine in the port of Novorossiysk.
According to the SBU, the released video of the attack clearly demonstrates the real level of protection of Russia’s strategic facilities, which differs significantly from the official statements of the Russian military leadership.
The SBU emphasizes that it will continue to strike the enemy’s legitimate military targets.
