The award was presented to General Oleksandr Syrskyi during a meeting with a French military delegation led by the Chief of the Armed Forces of France, General Fabien Mandon.

This was reported on December 20 by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The parties discussed the situation at the front, the current needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and further strengthening of cooperation.

France remains one of Ukraine’s key partners, in particular within the Coalition of the Willing and sectoral coalitions on air defense, aviation, artillery, and military training.

“Russia demonstrates its unwillingness to stop the war and deliberately continues its offensive actions. At the same time, every day we destroy its manpower and equipment, disrupt its plans, and hold our positions. Despite colossal losses and extreme efforts, the Russian army is not achieving significant operational results”, — General Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized.

The Commander-in-Chief thanked General Fabien Mandon, the government, and the people of France for their steadfast political and military support of Ukraine.

The symbolic conclusion of the meeting was the presentation of the Legion of Honor to General Oleksandr Syrskyi — the highest state award of France, conferred by the head of state for exceptional military or civilian merits.

On behalf of President Emmanuel Macron, the award was presented by General Fabien Mandon.
