Military medicine is changing together with the war itself. New methods, new training programs, new standards. Ukrainian medics combine foreign systems with their own unique experience, creating something new.
This was stated on the air of the national telethon United News by Dmytro Samofalov, Acting Director of the Healthcare Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
According to him, the war is changing radically, including for military medics. In 2022, there was a clearly defined line of contact and understandable stages of casualty evacuation. Now, instead of a line of contact, there is a “kill zone.” It is fully transparent due to the massive number of drones. Evacuation waiting times have changed.
“The situation at the front is also changing in that medics are very often deliberately hunted by the enemy, despite international law. Strikes are carried out against both military and civilian medical facilities. And this, of course, primarily changes approaches to the speed of providing medical care”, — said the Acting Director of the Ministry of Defense Healthcare Department.
Military medicine, Samofalov noted, differs from civilian medicine in that logistics play no lesser role than skills. An operation may sometimes begin in one place and be completed 300 kilometers away. The experience of Ukrainian military medics makes it possible to do this at a high level.
“If we talk about the level of combat medics and the quality of care provided, we are currently in quite a good position. We have a fairly large number of instructors who are no worse — and sometimes even better — than our foreign colleagues, because these instructors have real combat experience”, — Dmytro Samofalov emphasized.
At the same time, NATO partners continue to provide significant assistance to Ukrainian military doctors. This includes various training programs and equipment.
“Partners provide us with a large amount of equipment — from evacuation vehicles to operating room equipment. The warehouses of the Medical Forces Command are stocked with first aid kits provided through international assistance. On the other hand, we adopt certain standards from them, adapting them. We combine their systems with our experience. A new medicine of a new war is being born”, — Dmytro Samofalov concluded.

In 2025, units of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine continued to carry out missions and weaken the Russian aggressor — from strikes on its territory to the daily heroic resistance of marines on the hottest axes of the front.
Military units received 225,000 weapons and means of destruction worth over UAH 10 billion through the DOT-Chain Defence marketplace.
The intensity of enemy attempts to advance in small groups on the Kramatorsk axis increases during deteriorating weather conditions. Enemy infantry mostly move during darkness or twilight — “in the gray zone”.
In the first days of the new year 2026, Ukrainian soldiers captured two Russians on the Kupiansk axis. The prisoners claim they did not fire at Ukrainian defenders and were merely digging trenches.
