As part of his working visit to Norway, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with his Norwegian counterpart, Tore Sandvik.
The Minister of Defense reported this on social media.
Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude for Norway’s significant support and for the invitation to the meeting of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) defense ministers — Ukraine will take part in this format for the first time.
Following the meeting, the parties signed a memorandum on unified quality standards for defense products manufactured or supplied under the framework of their agreements.
“We must ensure that our troops are provided exclusively with high-quality weapons”, — the Minister stated.
Another important step is the memorandum between Ukrainian and Norwegian companies on establishing a joint defense enterprise in Ukraine. This will strengthen our defense-industrial potential.
“We discussed with my colleague the priority needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the strengthening of air defense. Ukraine is ready to share its experience in countering enemy drones. A separate topic was the enhancement of long-range capabilities”, — Denys Shmyhal noted.
Minister Sandvik confirmed Norway’s continued support for Ukraine and announced the decision to allocate $7 billion next year for defense needs.
“I am grateful to the government and people of Norway for their significant contribution, for providing F-16s and supporting Ukrainian aviation, as well as for their participation in the PURL initiative and the Maritime Capabilities Coalition”, — Denys Shmyhal concluded.
