On the afternoon of March 9, Colonel Oleksandr Dovhach, commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade and Hero of Ukraine, was killed while performing a comba
This was reported by the Ukrainian Air Force.
“Unfortunately, we have another painful loss for our aviation family and the entire country.
Today in the eastern direction, under conditions of a significant advantage of enemy aviation and powerful counteraction by hostile air defense systems, Colonel Oleksandr Dovhach — commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade, Hero of Ukraine — was killed.
He once again completed his combat mission, unfortunately at the cost of his own life…”, — the Air Force statement reads.
Oleksandr Dovhach was not just a commander.
He was a true leader and combat pilot.
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, the brigade under his command delivered precise and painful strikes against the enemy.
Oleksandr Dovhach carried out hundreds of combat sorties, striking enemy command posts, equipment, and communications systems.
He repeatedly provided cover for strike and bomber aviation and destroyed enemy drones and missiles.
He fought for Kyiv region, Kharkiv region, Kherson region, and Snake Island.
“He was the first to enter battle, took on the most risky tasks, and inspired his subordinates to bold and decisive actions.
The circumstances are being established. We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones… Honor to the Hero!” — the Air Force statement says.
Only in November 2025 did Oleksandr Dovhach receive the title Hero of Ukraine.
