The President of Ukraine addressed the EU Parliament on the fourth anniversary of the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war.
This was reported on the website of the Head of State.
The Head of State thanked the members of the European Parliament for their constant attention, support, and firm stance on the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
“Putin cannot accept one simple thing — that somewhere people can live differently and enjoy a life that differs from the one he prefers. That is why he constantly tries to break someone — not only now, not only during these four years, but throughout his entire time in power. He is the war itself. And anyone who supports Putin cannot fail to understand that they are choosing war”, — the President stated.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that this is not the first time Ukraine has had to defend itself from a Russian invasion, but it is the first time there is such a large coalition of support. This is a shared achievement of all those who were not afraid on February 24, 2022, and are not afraid now.
“Today, we must be just as determined and strong as at the beginning of the invasion. The threat has not decreased. Yes, we are holding Russia back, but we do not yet have guaranteed security. And we can achieve this only together — together in Europe, together with America”, — the Head of State said.
The President noted that it is necessary to continue decisively applying the full spectrum of protection against Russia: from strong sanctions to real support for life after Russian attacks.
“Each of you understands what fills Putin’s wallet with money and allows him to prolong this war. That is why there must be no place for Russian oil in the free world, for Russian tankers, Russian banks, Russian sanction-evasion schemes, or for any Russian war criminals — it is time to completely block entry to Europe for all participants in Russian aggression”, — Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
According to the Head of State, Ukraine also needs a full spectrum of security guarantees — to prevent the spread of Russian aggression in Europe and ensure the ability to support any European country if it becomes the target of a new Russian war.
The President stressed that an important decision has been made on €90 billion in support for Ukraine over two years, and everything possible must be done to implement it.
In addition, it is important for Ukraine to receive a clear date for accession to the European Union within diplomacy aimed at ending the war.
“This is not just a wish. It is a clear understanding of how Putin will act. If there is no date, if there is no such guarantee, he will find a way to block Ukraine for decades by dividing you — by dividing Europe. We must protect ourselves from this”, — Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State also thanked all European countries supporting the Ukrainian energy system, air defense, and the Coalition of the Willing, which united the states of Europe, the USA, Canada, and Japan.
“Russians must understand that Europe is an alliance of independent states and millions of people who do not tolerate humiliation and will not accept violence.
Continue defending the European way of life. Support Ukraine. Support our diplomacy for the sake of peace. And be effective: every result you achieve is a line Putin cannot cross”, — the President concluded.
