Ukraine and France continue to work on a record level of deliveries of AASM Hammer guided aerial bombs to our country.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense explains what is known about these munitions, which have been successfully destroying enemy targets for several years.
In the French Air and Space Force, AASM Hammer bombs can be deployed from a wide range of aircraft. In particular, they are compatible with F-16, Dassault Rafale, Mirage 2000D, and others. In the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, these bombs are adapted for launch from MiG-29 aircraft.
AASM Hammer is a kit of additional equipment that turns free-fall bombs into high-precision guided munitions. It includes a guidance unit and a tail module with fins and a booster.
Thanks to its guidance unit — with inertial, satellite, laser, or infrared guidance options — these bombs strike targets with a deviation of up to 10 meters.
The booster allows destruction of enemy targets at distances of up to 70 km, enabling aircraft to release them from a safe distance outside enemy air-defense zones.
Currently, the most widely used AASM Hammer kits are for the 250-kg Mk 82 bomb and the 1,000-kg Mk 84 bomb. However, kits for other bomb types also exist.
Recently, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov and France’s Minister of Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Catherine Vautrin signed a Letter of Intent during a meeting in Kyiv regarding joint weapons production in Ukraine and France. A separate topic of negotiations was achieving a record level of AASM Hammer guided bomb deliveries.
