On the fourth anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the “Ukraine — Nordic and Baltic Countries” summit was held in Kyiv.
This was reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Participants included: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Finland Alexander Stubb, Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Estonia Krysten Michal, Prime Minister of Iceland Kristrún Frostadóttir, Prime Minister of Latvia Evika Siliņa, Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre, Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson, and Lithuania’s Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas.
The leaders expressed their support for Ukraine and solidarity with the Ukrainian people resisting Russian aggression.
The summit focused on efforts to achieve a just peace. The participants stressed that any future peace agreement must be based on international law and cannot reward Russian aggression.
The partners share a common position: Ukraine continues to demonstrate readiness for peace negotiations, while Russia only seeks to buy time.
The leaders also emphasized that Ukraine must receive reliable and legally binding security guarantees to prevent further aggression and ensure long-term stability in Europe. They stressed that Ukraine’s security is inseparable from Euro-Atlantic security.
Nordic and Baltic countries will continue supporting Ukraine. This year, defense assistance will amount to at least €12.5 billion, including contributions to the PURL program. Energy support will also continue, totaling at least €918 million this year.
A joint statement following the summit reaffirmed the countries’ unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.
The statement noted:
“We support all efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Any future peace agreement must be firmly grounded in international law. It cannot reward aggression, legitimize changes of borders by force, or leave Ukraine vulnerable to new military threats. Ukraine continues to demonstrate readiness for peace negotiations, while Russia keeps stalling”.
The leaders emphasized that a just and lasting peace requires reliable and legally binding security guarantees for Ukraine.
