Ukraine’s Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov urged European partners to join efforts to develop countermeasures against ballistic missiles.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
During a video conference with representatives of the E5 group — France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the United Kingdom — Mykhailo Fedorov discussed priorities for strengthening missile defense.
The meeting was attended by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Germany’s Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius, France’s Minister for the Armed Forces Catherine Vautrin, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, and NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska.
Fedorov stated that the European defense industry must urgently expand production capacity for counter-ballistic systems, as current production volumes remain critically low.
Ukraine proposed to launch joint projects with European countries for the development and production of counter-ballistic solutions. At the same time, the Minister noted that Ukraine is already implementing its own initiatives in this sphere.
Separately, Fedorov emphasized the need to continue funding the PURL program, which is currently a key mechanism for obtaining PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems.
The Minister thanked partners for the concrete decisions adopted at the recent Ramstein-format meeting. He expressed particular gratitude to Boris Pistorius for initiating additional PAC-3 supplies. Ukraine has already started receiving missiles under these agreements.
“Rapid implementation of agreements within hours is an example of how we must work”, — Fedorov stressed.
He also reported that Ukraine is preparing proposals to strengthen economic pressure on Russia, including asymmetric measures against Russia’s “shadow fleet”. Ukraine counts on the leadership of European countries in implementing these measures.
Additional attention during discussions was devoted to the importance of fast and flexible use of the EU defense loan for Ukraine. According to the Minister, these funds must serve the main goal — ensuring Ukraine’s victory.
