The United Kingdom has announced that it will urgently provide new missiles and air defense systems worth more than £500 million to protect Ukraine.
This was stated in a press release on the UK government’s website.
UK Defence Secretary John Healey on February 12 is co-chairing the 33rd meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
He will confirm that the UK will, for the first time, provide £150 million for NATO’s “Ukraine’s Priority Needs List” (PURL) initiative.
Additionally, the UK intends to supply 1,000 Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM), manufactured in Belfast, which will help protect Ukrainian infrastructure and cities from Russian drones and missiles.
This £390 million agreement builds on deepening cooperation between British and Ukrainian industries to provide Ukraine with Rapid Ranger launchers and command-and-control vehicles.
In the coming months, the UK will also deliver an additional 1,200 air defense missiles and 200,000 artillery shells for Ukraine’s defenders.
“I am proud that the UK continues to play a leading role, and I am pleased to confirm a new half-billion-pound package for air defense, including £150 million for PURL, to help Ukrainians defend themselves from Putin’s relentless drone and missile attacks”, — John Healey said.
