Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed additional contributions to the PURL program, energy assistance, and strengthening air defense with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
The meeting took place on February 6.
“We are grateful for the energy packages, especially the support that is crucial for us during these horrific attacks on our energy infrastructure. In any case, we must be strong on the battlefield as well, and therefore the second point — we are very grateful for all your military aid packages”, — Zelenskyy noted.
The parties discussed further defense support for Ukraine and cooperation with partners within the Coalition of the Willing.
The President informed about Ukraine’s needs, primarily the necessity of additional air-defense missiles.
The head of state noted Estonia’s participation in the PURL program, which allows Ukraine to purchase air-defense missiles in the U.S.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine needs additional contributions to PURL. According to the foreign minister, Estonia is considering this possibility.
Tsahkna also said that his country continues humanitarian projects. Recently, he attended the opening of a reconstructed residential building for internally displaced persons in Ovruch, housing one hundred people, and of a sheltered rehabilitation center in Zhytomyr. Plans include shelters for a kindergarten and for people with special needs.
“These were emotional events for me because it’s very important to see with your own eyes how the small things we do mean so much. And I am sure we will continue supporting you. Also, you know that our Ministry of Defense has already approved assistance according to the list of necessary items you need this year”, — Tsahkna noted.
They also discussed diplomatic efforts: meetings of Ukrainian, American, and Russian representatives in Abu Dhabi, and preparation for the next talks.
Additionally, they talked about steps that may force Russia toward peace and support diplomatic efforts.
In particular, they reviewed the finalization of the 20th EU sanctions package and blocking the Russian tanker fleet.
