Yevhenii worked as a roofer but was mobilized and joined the 95th Separate Air Assault Polissia Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
His story was published on the brigade’s channel.
“I wasn’t ‘busified’, I was mobilized. It’s normal for men to be drafted into the army. I understand what responsibility for my home and my family means. Who else if not me will protect them? I’ve been in the brigade since late summer this year—I even celebrated my 30th birthday here”, — said paratrooper Yevhenii.
He said he had already been on several combat missions.
“One of the latest: our group was supposed to enter and take a position. But the frontline is unpredictable, so we missed a bit and entered the Russian rear. We caused them quite a mess there, and then returned to our own,” the assault trooper laughed.
He noted that being a paratrooper is, above all, about intelligence and ingenuity.
“Of course, strength and endurance are the basics, but we must quickly orient ourselves in constantly changing situations. And be able to make decisions. Yes, in the enemy rear we could have been spotted and everyone would have died. But we coordinated with our comrades, contacted the commander—and we succeeded”, — he assured.
Yevhenii proved himself an effective soldier and has already become a squad leader.
“There’s nothing difficult about it. No one is born with an assault rifle. I used to be a roofer—a profession far from the army! But I learned to fight, like everything else we learn in life. Here, in the 95th, we train constantly. Even after combat missions, we train at the range!
I’ll tell you this: there can never be too much training. Newcomers arrive, and we need to conduct coordination so that the team works as one organism. There is time to polish skills and work on mistakes. And the war keeps changing, so you have to be ready for anything”, — he emphasized.
