The European Union Ambassador to Ukraine, Katarina Maternova, reacted to another Russian shelling of Kyiv.
She wrote on her Facebook page:
“During the night, Russia attacked Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and five other regions. The strikes were deliberately aimed at heat and power sources, as well as civilians”.
The EU ambassador emphasized that this attack was another massive combined strike — using about 450 drones and 70 ballistic and cruise missiles. Kyiv suffered numerous strikes across the city: residential buildings, a kindergarten, and facilities providing heat and electricity were damaged.
“According to Mayor Klitschko, another 1,170 multi-story residential buildings were left without heating and electricity — in the middle of winter, in freezing weather. This morning in Kyiv it was –23°C”, — added the ambassador.
According to her, in Kharkiv, the strikes mainly targeted energy infrastructure: 820 multi-story buildings will be cut off from heating to prevent frozen pipes. In Odesa region, attacks were directed at energy infrastructure and civilian facilities. Almost 50,000 residents were left without electricity.
“Across the country, dozens of people were injured. Exact data is being clarified. Rescue services are working to help people and clear debris after attacks. This is not a side effect of war. This is a Russian strategy. Winter temperatures are used as a weapon. Heat and electricity — as targets. Every night I think of the thousands of people shivering in their homes. Winter is not over — nor are Russian attacks. I admire Ukraine and how it resists”, — wrote Katarina Maternova.
