Upon the submission of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a decision appointing Mykhailo Fedorov as Minister of Defense of Ukraine. His candidacy was supported by 277 members of parliament.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The new Minister of Defense addressed the Verkhovna Rada, summarizing key achievements in the defense sector and outlining future priorities.
Among the key achievements during the full-scale invasion, he mentioned:
In his new position, Mykhailo Fedorov outlined several priorities:
“The President set a clear task: to build a system capable of stopping the enemy in the air, halting its advance on land, strengthening asymmetric and cyber strikes against the enemy and its economy, and making the cost of war for Russia unbearable”, — the new Minister of Defense emphasized.
In addition, among the areas of focus, Fedorov highlighted training of Ukrainian service members, improving their financial and social support, deepening cooperation with international partners, and developing the defense-industrial complex.
He also stressed that anti-corruption efforts will become the foundation of the new Ministry of Defense.
“One of the first decisions as Minister of Defense will be ensuring a basic level of drone provision for brigades, which is clearly insufficient”, — Mykhailo Fedorov concluded.
Over the past day, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces grouping struck or destroyed 1,209 enemy targets.
Drone units of the Joint Forces’ Iron Brigade are continuously destroying enemy UAVs (“chortolyoty”) and personnel.
On the night of March 20, the enemy attacked with 156 strike UAVs, including Shahed-type drones, “Gerbera”, “Italmas”, and other types.
Over the past day, Russian occupation forces lost 1,610 personnel on the battlefield.
A UAV operator of the “Typhoon” unmanned systems unit with the callsign “Nimets” can strike the enemy even blindly.
The first cycle of testing, evaluation, verification, and validation of unmanned aerial systems took place at NATO’s innovation range for unmanned systems.
