In 2026, humanitarian demining of de-occupied territories of Ukraine will be planned using a new approach — based on modern digital solutions.

The digitalization of the planning process was discussed during the final meeting of the National Mine Action Authority, held under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Shevtsov.
An innovation was the presentation of forwarding digital platform developed by Ukrainian experts and scientists in the fields of ecology, economics, geoinformation systems, and data engineering.
The platform makes it possible, based on the analysis of large data sets, to determine demining priorities for agricultural land — directing resources to where clearance is most urgently needed.
During the meeting, participants were informed about the results of demining plans implementation in 2025. From January 1 to December 30, demining units of the Security and Defense Forces surveyed more than 490 km² of agricultural land in nine regions of Ukraine, of which 367 km² were cleared of explosive hazards.
Separately, members of the National Authority approved the draft Humanitarian Demining Plan for De-occupied Territories for 2026. The document was prepared taking into account proposals from all mine action stakeholders and current security risks associated with Russia’s ongoing armed aggression.
The meeting also approved the updated personal composition of the National Authority and its work plan for 2026. Summing up, Lieutenant General Mykola Shevtsov emphasized that the National Authority will continue to consistently develop the state’s mine action capabilities.
“This work will help reduce risks associated with explosive hazards and minimize the threat of accidents”, — Lieutenant General Mykola Shevtsov said.
