At the request of prosecutors of the Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a 49-year-old man who joined the armed forces of the aggressor state was found guilty of committing high treason (Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
This was reported by the Sumy Prosecutor’s Office.
By a court verdict dated December 25, 2025, he was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The prosecutor proved in court that the citizen of Ukraine, after Russia seized part of the Zaporizhzhia region, supported the actions of the aggressor state and remained living in the occupied territory.
At the same time, in November 2024, he voluntarily signed a contract with the armed forces of the Russian Federation. While serving as a rifleman, the convicted man, as part of the 34th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, took part in combat operations against the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region.
In March 2025, he was captured by Ukrainian defenders.
Currently, the convicted person is being held in a prisoner-of-war camp.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Sumy region.
