The Defense Forces of Ukraine carried out another unique special operation, causing a maritime “cotton” incident in the port of Novorossiysk.

The Security Service of Ukraine reported this on the evening of December 15.

For the first time in history, Sub Sea Baby underwater drones blew up a Russian Project 636.3 Varshavyanka-class submarine (NATO designation: Kilo).

As a result of the explosion, the submarine sustained critical damage and was effectively put out of action.

The submarine was carrying four launchers for Kalibr cruise missiles, which the enemy uses to strike Ukrainian territory.

This was a joint operation conducted by the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SBU and the Naval Forces of Ukraine.

The cost of a Varshavyanka-class submarine is approximately $400 million. Given the international sanctions currently in place, building a similar submarine could now cost up to $500 million. This class of submarines is also known as the “Black Hole” due to the hull’s ability to absorb sound and remain difficult to detect by sonar.

It is recalled that the destroyed submarine was forced to remain in the port of Novorossiysk due to successful special operations by Sea Baby surface maritime drones, which pushed Russian ships and submarines out of Sevastopol Bay in temporarily occupied Crimea.
