President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that it would be a significant loss for the Russians if Ukraine managed to receive 140–160 billion of frozen Russian assets.
He announced this on his official page.
“Whether it will be a loan guaranteed by other countries or another option — if we can obtain these 140–160 billion, it will be a great loss for Putin and the people in his circle. You know this is their money. And that’s why it will truly destabilize their system, their clique. So I believe it’s very important”, — he wrote.
According to him, freezing the money is one thing, but transferring it to Ukraine is quite another.
“Not only for weapons. We will produce things in Ukraine with this money. We’ll receive some package from PURL, air defense systems — it’s not only offensive weapons”, — the statement reads.
Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine would purchase missiles and air defense systems to protect its energy infrastructure and more.
“This will be an important signal to Russia: look, if you continue, you will lose from 35 to 80 billion next year in energy trade — depending on how sanctions work — and plus 140 billion in frozen assets. This is an important tool for achieving peace”, — the Head of State stressed.
