The decision of the European Council to provide Ukraine with €90 billion in financial support for 2026–2027 is a strategic step that strengthens the resilience and defense capabilities of the state while simultaneously reinforcing the security of all of Europe.

This was stated by Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Denys Shmyhal while commenting on the decision of the European Council.

According to him, the document contains not only a financial component but also a clear signal about the need to further strengthen military assistance to Ukraine.

Separately, the European Council supported the integration of Ukraine’s defense industry with the European one, in particular within the SAFE instrument. This opens up additional opportunities for joint projects and the long-term buildup of defense capabilities.

The Minister emphasized that by strengthening Ukraine, Europe is investing in its own security architecture for years ahead, and expressed gratitude to European partners for the adopted decision.

As reported by ArmyInform, the leaders of the European Union approved a decision to provide Ukraine with financial support totaling €90 billion for 2026–2027.

The funds will be provided in the form of an interest-free loan linked to future reparations from the Russian aggressor. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen explained that this loan will not become a burden on Ukraine’s budget and will need to be repaid only when Kyiv receives reparations.
