Ukraine and the Netherlands are working on joint defense production and continue preparing the necessary legal infrastructure to bring all those guilty of Russian aggression to justice.
This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy following a meeting with Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dick Schoof in The Hague.
The Head of State thanked the Netherlands for its principled and unwavering support of Ukraine, which directly affects the ability to protect lives. He also highlighted the recent €700 million defense package, support for the PURL program, and assistance for energy resilience.
“We are working to establish joint defense production, including modern drones, in Ukraine and the Netherlands. Ukraine is defending its independence and the lives of its people, and therefore every step of support right now has special significance”, — Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
In recent days, the President briefed Dick Schoof and other partners on the situation on the battlefield. Russia constantly tries to create a false impression at the front, but Ukrainian warriors are doing incredible things and holding positions, no matter how difficult it is.
“Putin has never counted the lives of his people or his losses at the front, and now, when he wants to use every meter as an argument in negotiations, losses matter to him even less. Russian assaults are indeed heavy. But we are holding our positions, and this helps us significantly, including in dialogue — in political dialogue among leaders, first and foremost with partners from the United States”, — the President emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reported that Ukrainian and Dutch teams continue preparing the necessary legal infrastructure. Ukraine, for its part, will do everything to find and bring Russian murderers to justice.
“But international law must also work and ensure legal accountability and appropriate compensation for losses. The Netherlands is helping us with this, and it is important that all instruments of justice work — from the tribunal for Russian aggression to the Compensation Commission”, — the Head of State stressed.
Dick Schoof noted that the Netherlands has expressed readiness to host, under the auspices of the Council of Europe, the International Compensation Commission for Ukraine.
“Our ultimate goal is a sustainable and just peace for Ukraine. And this can be achieved only alongside the rule of law. Without achieving justice for millions of Ukrainians who have suffered from Putin’s aggression, we open the door to new violence”, — the Prime Minister of the Netherlands emphasized.
