The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is expanding training opportunities for modern technical specialists of the Armed Forces. From now on, schools that train UAV operators have officially been granted the right to train and certify operators of ground robotic complexes (GRCs) and instructors who will work with this equipment.

The corresponding changes were approved by an order of Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine reports.

What is changing

The schools are receiving new powers to:

  • develop training, retraining, and advanced training programs for GRC operators and instructors;
  • train both servicemembers and civilian candidates.

If a person is not yet serving, a military unit may issue a voucher for training. After completing the course at a certified school, they are eligible to be mobilized specifically for the specialty of GRC operator.

Why this matters

Modern warfare is rapidly shifting to a new technological level, and ground robotic complexes — from logistics platforms to strike systems — are becoming an important part of combat operations.

This innovation will make it possible to:

  • adapt training programs more quickly to the emergence of new equipment;
  • respond promptly to technological changes;
  • increase the number of qualified operators and instructors.

Quality control — under the Armed Forces

The Armed Forces of Ukraine will continue to assess the actual quality of training, while the Ministry of Defence will ensure that training programs comply with the standards of the Defence Forces.
