Starting from August 4, when command and control of the Defense Forces units on the Dobropillia axis was transferred to the 1st Corps, and up to today, the enemy has lost more than 20,000 personnel killed and wounded.

This was reported on December 29 by the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov”.

“The Corps command ensured effective coordination of actions between units of the National Guard, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Air Assault and Assault Troops, the Unmanned Systems Forces, and other components of the Defense Forces.

Coordinated interaction made it possible to stabilize the situation on the axis. In autumn, the General Staff calculated that during the counteroffensive operation the area of liberated territory amounted to about 175 square kilometers. In addition, almost 195 square kilometers were cleared of sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

Starting from August 4, when command of the Defense Forces units on the Dobropillia axis was transferred to the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine ‘Azov’, and up to today, the enemy has suffered significant losses.

As of December 29, 2025, they amount to:

  • irrecoverable losses — 12,492 occupiers;

  • sanitary losses — 8,346;

  • captured — 185 servicemen of the Russian army.

Over five months of the counteroffensive operation, a large amount of enemy equipment was destroyed or damaged:

  • 93 tanks;

  • 259 armored fighting vehicles;

  • 314 artillery systems;

  • 1,821 units of light, heavy automotive and motorcycle equipment, including 618 passenger vehicles; 33 heavy vehicles; 43 special-purpose vehicles; 1,127 motorcycles and buggies;

  • 3,579 UAVs of various types.

The first major operation of the 1st Corps of the NGU ‘Azov’ became practical confirmation that under conditions of clear planning, unified command, and coordinated work of units, the Corps is capable of effectively countering the enemy, disrupting its operational and strategic plans, while preserving the lives of Defense Forces personnel.

The year 2025 became a year of trials for the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine ‘Azov’ and at the same time a test of the effectiveness of the army corps system created to increase the efficiency of planning and employment of troops.

The Dobropillia operation became the first successful exam for the Corps. Ahead are new battles, and they will require will, discipline, and action”, — the statement of the 1st Corps says.

It should be recalled that on March 7, 2025, the 1st Corps was created within the National Guard, based on the Azov Brigade. Four more brigades joined the Corps: Burevii, Chervona Kalyna, Kara-Dag, and Lubart. The Corps is commanded by Hero of Ukraine Colonel Denys “Redis” Prokopenko.
